Extracurriculars

President

Throughout most of my presidency, we did not have a full executive board, meaning I was fulfilling the responsibilities normally managed by a VP finance, philanthropy, executive administrator, and accountability, all in one. Some of my focuses and projects are highlighted below.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

I worked with my VP of DEI to create a curriculum for a podcast-based learning module on DEI-related topics as part of an in-depth pre-recruitment training. The idea for this came in part due to responses to criticisms of Greek life being a historically unwelcome place for people with diverse backgrounds and is the first of many necessary steps to make our chapter and Stanford's sorority community a force for good on campus.

Philanthropy

As a director and VP, I planned and hosted our first Red Dress Gala and fundraiser, raising over $5000. I also created an initiative I called From Our Hearts to Yours: Giving Back Tangibly, inspired by our foundation's focus on women's heart health. There is a reflection component woven in to the service opportunities to produce a more profound impact on members.

Finance

I managed member dues, reassessed chapter dues to reflect chapter activities, and designed a budget that represented the values and goals I had for the chapter. I kept accounts balanced while creating a worthwhile experience for members.

As an ambassador, I worked in small and large group settings to discuss and prototype ideas for the program's improvement and adaptation to the online environment. I helped with virtual advertising and brainstorming. My small group worked on an individual project to send letters to healthcare workers as part of our service.

In January, I participated in a prototype for this summer's virtual programming for their Vietnam program. I developed lesson plans for math, life skills, and teaching soccer. During nightly meetings, we worked with Vietnamese college students to convey and workshop our ideas so that they would be well-equipped to implement them. We engaged in cultural exchange activities and were able to make connections with our American and Vietnamese counterparts.

Because of how much I got out of the January prototype, I decided to apply for the full program this summer and was accepted. This summer's program will look different from last year's ACE in Place experience, but I am looking forward to have a more service-focused program this summer.

Service in the online context, if done properly, can actually be more selfless and pure than other forms of service. Although I am heartbroken that I was unable to travel to South Africa last summer where I was accepted to participate in ACE, I have had such meaningful discussions and reflections about my relationship with service as a result of not being able to go. In the Vietnam prototype, I truly felt as though my only goal was to empower the Vietnamese college students with whom we were working.
